NEST+m's budget, tier by tier

1The tiers of money

A school's "money per student" mixes dollars a principal can spend however they choose with dollars that are tied to specific students, and with costs that pass straight through to buses and the building. This page splits every school's money into tiers, from most to least flexible, and compares NEST+m with nine similar schools tier by tier. Tiers 1a, 1b and 2 all come from one source on one date: DOE Galaxy 2024-25, the DOE's own allocation system, final allocations for 2024-25 (the latest complete year) as of March 18, 2026, with every grant posted during the year. Salaries only; the DOE publishes benefits separately. Tier 3 is not in the school budget at all, so it comes from NY State (the state's per-pupil cost report, 2023-24) and is kept apart, not added to the totals. PTA and private money is in the same DOE data but is not public funding, so it is its own category, shown next to the public tiers and never mixed into them. Pre-K and summer money (3K and 4K for All, pre-K classes, Summer Rising) is left out of the tiers too: pre-K children are not in the K-12 enrollment the page divides by, so counting that money would inflate the per-student figure of any school with pre-K classes.

In each strip: grey line, middle 80% of NYC schools; blue box, middle 50%; dark tick, citywide median; grey dots, the nine comparison schools; red dot, NEST+m. "By school type" compares NEST+m with schools that serve K-5 only, K-8, or K-12, by the grades each school is funded for; there are only four K-12 schools outside District 75, NEST+m included. Pre-K and summer money is excluded everywhere. Citywide: every NYC DOE school in districts 1-32 with at least 100 students and a Fair Student Funding report for 2024-25, measured the same way (Galaxy final allocations ÷ final FSF register).

2Every school, tier by tier

Dollars per student in each public tier, with PTA money as a separate orange segment set apart at the end. Sorted by tier 1a within each grade group. Tap or hover a bar for the numbers.

3The gap with NEST+m, per tier

How many dollars per student more (blue) or less (red) each school receives than NEST+m in each tier. Tiers 1a, 1b and 2 add up to the public-money gap. PTA money comes after, in its own column, followed by the total including it.

5Tier 1a: where the gap comes from DOE Galaxy 2024-25

Tier 1a is where most of the difference sits. Each row is one source of flexible money. Under each school's name: its tier 1a gap and its public-money gap with NEST+m. Each cell shows that row's dollars per student and its share of the school's tier 1a gap; the rows add up to 100%. A row can pass 100% when other rows go the other way.
